What's it all about?
Artist statement
Art is ever-present in all facets of life. As a sculptural artist Zane’s goal is to reveal and relate the forms that come together to create reality. This creative philosophy drives a motif throughout his work which highlights distinctly human forms and ideas. His sculptures tend to have an attention to the superficial and illusory. It all follows the idea that there is always more than meets the eye. Viewers discover and uncover things they can relate to within Zane’s artwork.
Zane likes to incorperate glass as a main ingredient in sculpture because of its revealing and relatable nature. There is something very uniquely human about transparency and relatable about fragility. His glass forms are made to convey a larger concept. Even in more abstract examples, his work is never just about materials or techniques. Currently, Zane is working on an anamorphic sculpture in metal and glass. He is assembling branching metal structures which will hold glass forms on the ends of each branch. When viewers change their perspective along the x axis and view the sculpture from a profile, the glass components come together to reveal a figure. This is a statement about how personal perspective can completely change one’s perception of another.
